The main application of concentric needle electrodes is in the detection of electromyography. In vivo, when muscles contract, action potentials can be reflected on the surface of the skin through the conductive effect of muscle fibers through tissues. By directly inserting the needle electrode into the muscle, the action potential during muscle activity can be recorded. This type of recording is called electromyography (EMG). In clinical practice, electromyography can be used to determine the functional status of nerves and muscles, that is, the condition of skeletal muscle fibers being innervated by nerves, as well as the state of nerve muscle fibers themselves. This helps to diagnose motor nerve and muscle diseases.
