In the drilling process of oil and gas, when encountering a situation where the underground pressure is relatively high and the circulating mud is difficult to balance with the underground oil and gas pressure, an appropriate amount of barite powder needs to be added to the drilling fluid to increase the mixed density of the circulating mud. This plays the roles of cooling the drill bit, taking away the cut debris, lubricating the drill pipe, sealing the borehole wall, controlling the oil and gas pressure, and preventing the oil well from blowing out. Generally, the barite powder for drilling mud requires a fineness of more than 325 mesh, a density greater than 4.2g/cm³, and a barium sulfate BaSO₄content of not less than 95%.
